GSA Counts 17 RedCap Launches and 2,031 Private Wireless Deployments Worldwide

Telecommunications network infrastructure

The Global mobile Suppliers Association reported that 17 operators had launched 5G RedCap services as of September 2026, with four of those launches during the year. RedCap is designed for devices that do not need the full capabilities of conventional 5G, balancing performance, device complexity and cost for applications such as connected cameras and industrial sensors.

The GSA also noted that 41 operators were investing in 5G-Advanced as of October 2026, while 19 had launched a service. On private wireless, the research catalogued 2,031 organizations deploying private networks, of which 1,001, or 49 percent, were using 5G. The 3.5 GHz band is the most widely assigned spectrum, with 482 customer references, and manufacturing is the strongest sector with 393 identified companies.

The RedCap numbers are modest but directionally important. RedCap succeeds or fails on device cost, and the first wave of launches suggests operators are testing the technology in specific verticals, not pursuing mass-market consumer adoption. The 3.5 GHz concentration in private networks reflects the availability of that band for industrial use in many markets.

The gap between investment and launch in 5G-Advanced is the more telling figure. Forty-one operators investing against nineteen live services indicates that most are still in trial or pre-commercial phases, and the technology has not yet found a revenue model that justifies the upgrade cost for the majority of operators.

For equipment buyers, the signal is that private wireless and RedCap create a steady demand for mid-tier 5G equipment, particularly in the 3.5 GHz band. As operators and enterprises refresh or expand these deployments, base stations, small cells and industrial gateways enter the secondary market in growing volumes.

Supplier’s note: private wireless and RedCap deployments in the 3.5 GHz band generate steady demand for mid-tier 5G base stations, small cells and industrial gateways, and operators refreshing these networks release older units into the secondary market. We handle Nokia Flexi Zone small cells, Ericsson Radio Dot System units, Huawei LampSite indoor coverage systems and ZTE QCell small cells, tested and graded. Lead times run 2 to 4 weeks for units in stock and 4 to 6 weeks for configured orders. Buyers should verify band configuration, power supply and indoor or outdoor rating before purchase, because private wireless equipment is often site-specific and may not transfer between deployments. Minimum order is one unit; we provide serial-level records and pre-shipment test reports, plus a 30-day functional warranty on all refurbished units.
