Teletalk Awards ZTE a 4G Expansion Contract on the 700 MHz Band to Widen Rural Coverage in Bangladesh

Teletalk Bangladesh Limited, the country’s only state-owned mobile operator, issued a notification of award to ZTE on October 26 for the procurement of 4G equipment on the 700 MHz band, aimed at expanding 4G services into rural and remote areas and improving indoor network connectivity in cities. The handover took place at the office of the Posts and Telecommunications Division in the presence of the minister, with Teletalk’s managing director and ZTE’s managing director and chief executive officer both in attendance.
The 700 MHz band is the point of the deal. Its lower frequency lets radio signals travel longer distances and penetrate buildings better than higher bands, which is the property that makes it suitable for rural coverage and indoor connectivity in a market where site acquisition is slow and urban density is high. The release describes the deployment as an important step in expanding and modernising Teletalk’s network.
The deal is a contract award, not a deployment. No site count, coverage target or rollout date was disclosed, and the notification of award is the first step in a procurement process that still has to move through delivery, installation and commissioning. The release frames the initiative as playing a positive role in expanding reliable mobile connectivity and digital services for people in remote parts of the country.
The context is visible in regional data. GSMA’s Mobile Economy 2025 notes that mobile data traffic in South Asia is growing at roughly 35 percent annually, while rural site density remains among the lowest in the region, which is the gap that sub-gigahertz spectrum is meant to close. Bangladesh has more than 180 million people and a mobile penetration rate above 100 percent, but rural 4G coverage remains uneven.
For the Bangladesh market, the read is that state-owned operators are still filling 4G coverage gaps with sub-gigahertz spectrum while private operators move ahead with 5G. Teletalk’s position as the only state-owned carrier means its rollout decisions are as much policy as commercial, and the 700 MHz award is a coverage play instead of a capacity one.
Supplier’s note: We stock ZTE 4G radio equipment on sub-gigahertz bands with typical lead times of 8 to 12 weeks for carrier orders, and we hold buffer inventory for 700 MHz baseband units given their longer factory lead times. Cross-reference equivalents from Huawei and Ericsson are available for buyers comparing rural coverage architectures. We have commissioned three rural 4G expansions in the past quarter with average turn-up of six weeks including site survey and commissioning. Stock levels for sub-gigahertz radio units are tracked weekly against carrier allocation schedules. Pricing is quoted per unit with volume discounts for orders above 10 units, and extended warranty options up to five years are available. All units ship with full manufacturer warranty and bulk orders over 50 units qualify for dedicated account management and on-site commissioning support.
